Stark – Family of Objects

As part of an assignment at Mass Art, students chose an adjective and did forms studies on that word before prototyping a family of objects with the chosen adjective. The working adjective in this assignment was “Stark”.

Stark: severe or bare in appearance or outline, often slightly unpleasant or frightening.

Borrowing themes from Brutalist Soviet architecture and sculptures, this Stark toaster boasts a monolithic facade that is hard to overlook. With the recessed activator, the front remains flush with no distracting protrusions. The bottom plinth creates a solid and simple base. Above the cancel toast feature there is a a recessed touch sensitive temperature adjuster.
